Fayez al-Sarraj parleys with some Libyan military commanders

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) – The chairman of the presidential council of the Libyan government of national accord, and supreme commander of the Libyan army, Fayez al-Sarraj, also on Monday held talks with the commanders of the western, Tripoli and Sebha (south) military regions on the latest security and military developments in regions.

The meeting also discussed the process of the joint coordination and working mechanisms between them, a communiqué issued by the information office of the presidential council said.

The commander of the western military region, Gen. Oussama Al-Jweili, the commander of the Tripoli military region, Gen. Abdelbasset Marwan, and the commander of the Sebha military region, Gen. Ali Kenna, reviewed the military situation in their regions with al-Sarraj.

Military sources said that ‘’the supreme commander of the Libyan army was informed about the reports presented by the commanders of the zones on the security situation in their zones’’.

The military operation launched in southern Libya by Marshall Khalifa Haftar, chief of the national army in the East meant to expel the terrorist groups and criminal gangs, fuelled tension in the country, considered by the presidential council chairman Fayez al-Sarraj as military escalation.

A meeting held on Wednesday in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) between Mr al-Sarraj and Marshall Haftar under the aegis of the United-Nations envoy in Libya, Ghassan Salame, agreed to hold general elections to end the transition and unify the country’s institutions.
