Fayez al-Sarraj discusses with American military consulting foundation to strengthen capacities of military staffs

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The chairman of the presidential council of the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez al-Sarraj, Tuesday discussed with a delegation of the American foundation -Jones- to strengthen the capacities of the Libyan army to fight against terrorism.

The American delegation, chaired by General Sik Walad, included General Tom Waldhauser and a certain number of senior leaders of the "Jones" Foundation, a statement issued by the press office of the presidential council said.

The same sources said the Libyan side included the advisor of the chairman of the presidential council for national security, the deputy minister of Defence, the army chief of staff, the land, air, maritime border chief commanders, and the commanders of the western, Tripoli and central military regions.

The others were the chief of the home security agency, the intelligence services chief and members of the study and evaluation committee.

The chairman of the presidential council discussed "the great attention which the Government of National Accord pays to the building and development of the Libyan military and security capacities in accordance with the latest international norms".

He also “reviewed a set of recommendations and measures, including the use of the expertise of international institutions such as the American Jones Foundation".

The meeting discussed the common vision and concept of the programme of capacity strengthening to deal with the different challenges and risks and defeat the terrorist and extremist organizations.

It also raised the issue of the coordination mechanisms between the Jones Foundation and the Libyan security and defence institutions.
