Fayez al-Sarraj congratulates governmental forces for taking control of Tripoli airport

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The chairman of the presidential council of the government of national accord (GNA), Fayez Al-Sarraj, Wednesday congratulated the Libyan army loyal to the government and the forces backing them for recapturing the Tripoli airport.

In a speech on the TV channel "Febriar", Al-Sarraj called on fighters within Haftar’s side to surrender and join legality, promising them they would be well treated.

They called on the political ’elites’ and all components of civil society in all Libyan cities to contribute to promote the spirit of tolerance, the rejection of violence and to anchor the principles of civilian government, saying Libyans were fed up with armed clashes, displacements and the war.

The Libyan official underlined that foreign parties intervened only to sow chaos and divisions in Libya to destroy the country.

Al-Sarraj reaffirmed his will to sue anyone who had contributed to the aggression by killing Libyans or destroying their installations, in accordance with international law.

He deplored the proliferation of mines in fighting zones where Haftar’s forces withdrew, killing civilians, adding that he charged the ministry of Defence and Interior to provide all needed capacities to dismantle the mines and enabled the displaced to return immediately home in the zones where the clashes broke out.

He said the government of national accord agreed with the Italian government to provide him with technical support and expertise to remove the mines and war remains.

The chairman of the presidential council also said that the military chiefs were in accord with political leaders, indicating that no one could divide them.

The international Tripoli airport, in the south of the country, was recaptured by forces of the GNA who ousted the pro-Haftar forces, said a statement issued by the military operation "Volcano of anger", quoting Colonel Mohamed Ganounou, spokesperson for the forces allied with the GNA.
