Fayez Al-Sarraj, military leaders discuss next phase of Tripoli operation

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The President of the Presidential Council of the Government of the National Unity and Supreme Commander of the Libyan Army, Fayez Al-Sarraj, met Wednesday with the leaders of the military zones in Tripoli and Western and Central regions on the needs of the military zones for the implementation of the next phase of Operation "Volcano of Anger" to repel the onslaught by the Libyan National Army forces, led by Marshal Khalifa Haftar.

In a statement, the Press Office of the President of the Presidential Council said that Mr. Al-Sarraj, at the meeting, heard a report on the situation on the ground in all areas of fighting and coordination between them.

The statement said that the president of the Presidential Council also discussed "the need for military zones to implement the next phase of the operation (Volcano of Anger), in addition to checking the procedures to ensure the security of civilians and private and public facilities".

The Commander of the Western Military Zone, General Usama al-Jouwili, Commander of the Tripoli Military Area, General Abdel Basset Marwane, and Commander of the Central Military Region, General Mohamed Al-Haddad, took part in the meeting.

Fighting has been going on since April 4 on the outskirts of Tripoli where Haftar's troops are trying to take control of the city without success.

Efforts to impose a ceasefire have failed, the most recent of which was the meeting of the Security Council, which adopted a press release supporting the UN envoy's appeal to observe a truce at the occasion of Eid Al-Adha scheduled for Sunday, August 11.

An appeal that may not be heard with regard to the military preparations and mobilization of both sides to go on the offensive on the ground.
