Ethiopian Airlines launches Lomé-Houston route

Lomé, Togo (PANA) - Ethiopian Airlines on Monday inaugurated its new route from Lomé to Houston, the capital of Texas in the United States of America, in the Togolese capital.

Flights will be operational 3 times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Saturday).

The Airline's officials said this new link via Lomé will "facilitate the movement of the important African community living in the region, and also of people operating in the oil and gas industry".

Ethiopian Airlines will pick passengers in Lomé via ASKY, the pan-African airline that has made the Togolese capital a hub for the West African sub-region.

For this first flight, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which operated the route, had 70 passengers departing from Lomé.

US Ambassador to Togo Eric William Stromayer and Ethiopian Airlines CEO Tewolde GebreMariam travelled from Lomé Airport for the event.

The new service to Houston, the fourth most populous city in the United States, is part of a restructuring of the airline's routes, which included the elimination of its Los Angeles route via Lomé, the airline said.
