Equatorial Guinea's Celba airline opens Malabo-Niamey route

Niamey, Niger (PANA) -  Equatorial Guinean airline Ceiba Intercontinental made its maiden flight on Thursday from Malabo to Diori Hamani International Airport of  Niamey, Niger.

The airline's Boeing 777-200 landed in Niamey witnessed by Nigerien authorities, including Prime Minister Brigi Rafini and Minister of Transport Karidjo Mahamadou.


On the flight was a large delegation from Equatorial Guinea including the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Mr. Alfonso Osa Nguema Mokuy; the Director General of CEIBA Intercontinental, Mr. Ruslan Obiang Nguema and several journalists from Malabo for the occasion.


The Nigerien Minister of Transport recalled that transport, especially air, is a vector of development for a country. He expressed his wish to see Diori Hamani Niamey International Airport transformed into a hub and that the direct Malabo-Niamey link could consolidate economic and diplomatic relations between Niger and Equatorial Guinea.


"We have just built a modern airport with all the infrastructure, we would like to make this airport available to all airlines that fly  to Niger so that we can transform the Diori Hamani International Airport into an airport that will accommodate aircraft from everywhere and an airport from which planes will take off to all directions.


"We want to work alongside the national airline of Niger so that the civil aviation sector can further develop," said the Secretary of State for Civil Aviation of Equatorial Guinea, Alfonso Nguema.


Ceiba Intercontinental continues to expand in Africa. It already serves several destinations in Central and West Africa, among which are Douala, Libreville, Brazzaville, Lomé, Cotonou, Accra, Abidjan.
