Eight people killed in Burkina Faso ambush

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (PANA) - At least eight Burkinabe civilians were killed on Thursday morning in an ambush in Markoye, in the Burkinabe Sahel, the government said in a statement.

It said unidentified armed individuals ambushed civilian transport vehicles between Markoye and Tokabangou, in the Sahel region.

The attack, which occurred 4 km from Tokabangou, while passengers were on their way to Dolbel market, left eight dead and nine injured according to a provisional report.

The wounded were taken care of by the health services.

The government has expressed its condolences to bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

An operation is underway to find the perpetrators of the "barbaric acts@, according to the government, which has advised the population to be vigilant and to work more closely with the Defence and Security Forces.
