Early payment of bonuses for interclub competitions

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA)  -  Faced with the ongoing concerns caused by the COVID-19 pandemic which has led to the suspension of football activities on the continent, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has decided to advance the payment of the last installment of bonuses planned for clubs participating in the CAF Interclub Competitions for the 2019/2020 season, Cafonline reported on Saturday.

According to the official website of the African body, "the initiative, which has already started, aims to reduce the financial burden of the thirty-two (32) clubs that have reached the group stages of the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup Total, during this critical period".

The clubs will receive their payments on the basis of the amounts established for each competition, from the initial phase to the quarter-finals, before the suspension of the two competitions for an indefinite period due to COVID-19, added the same source.

The guaranteed minimum for clubs participating in the Champions League is USD 550,000 and USD 275,000 for the Confederation Cup.

"The world of football, and consequently African football, is going through unprecedented difficulties. The current situation has had a telling effect on the stakeholders of African football. And CAF, sensitive to the needs of our clubs, major players of our football, has initiated the payment of their bonuses well in advance," said CAF President Ahmad Ahmad.

Under normal circumstances, clubs receive their bonuses for the Interclub Competitions at the end of the season.

According to the same source, CAF wishes to recall that it is closely monitoring the evolution of the situation and is working with the relevant authorities, including the World Health Organization (WHO), to assess the impact of the virus on the continent.

In addition, measures relating to competitions will be announced in due course.
