ECOWAS experts in Abidjan to validate organization's new IT policies

Cotonou, Benin (PANA) - Experts from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) are currently meeting in Abidjan to analyze and validate the organization's new IT policies and procedures, according to a press release from the sub-regional institution.

The main aim of the meeting, which began on Monday and was organized by the ECOWAS Commission's IT Services Directorate, is to ensure that ECOWAS' IT policies and procedures are in line with best practices and meet the evolving requirements of the global operating environment.

The ECOWAS IT policy will cover areas such as the acceptable use of IT resources, security measures, data management, compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and employee responsibilities, the statement added.

The meeting will be attended by directors, sector experts and IT managers from ECOWAS institutions and specialized agencies, who will consider the adoption of a manual of IT policies and procedures, as well as the evaluation of a draft data protection policy and new standard operating procedures.

At the end of the meeting on Friday, stakeholders are also expected to reach a consensus on the content, implementation plan and finalization of the new IT policy, and to identify any remaining gaps or problems and strategies to remedy them.
