ECOWAS condemns violence in Senegal

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (PANA) - The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) announced on Friday that it was following with "concern the eruption of violence" in Senegal following the court verdict in the Ousmane Sonko - Adji Sarr case.

ECOWAS "strongly condemns the violence that has targeted the security forces, public goods and private property and disturbed public order", it stated in the statement.

It deplored the loss of human life and called for restraint and the settlement of disputes by peaceful means.

"ECOWAS remains seized of developments in Senegal," it stressed, calling on all to defend the country's laudable reputation as a bastion of peace and stability.
