ECOWAS condemns recent attacks in Burkina Faso

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (PANA) - The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has condemned, in a statement issued Friday, the recent attacks that left several dead in the ranks of the Burkinabe army.

"It is with shock and indignation that the ECOWAS Commission has learned of the death of several dozen Burkinabe soldiers," the institution wrote in a statement.

The ECOWAS Commission "strongly condemns these cowardly and barbaric attacks and expresses its compassion and solidarity to the Transitional Government and the people of Burkina Faso," it added.

Burkina Faso has been the target of terrorist attacks since 2015, resulting in numerous victims and nearly 2 million internally displaced persons. Last Friday, a terrorist attack on a military unit in the Sahel region left 51 soldiers dead and more than 160 terrorists killed in the response, according to the Burkinabe army.
