ECOWAS condemns 'dastardly' terrorist attack on Nigeria church

Abuja, Nigeria (PANA) - The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on Tuesday added its voice to the condemnation of last Sunday's terrorist attack on a church in Nigeria in which more than 20 people were killed and many more injured, including children.

ECOWAS said in a statement that it had received with "utter shock" the gruesome terrorist attack on innocent worshippers at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State.

The sub-regional body said it "strongly condemns the dastardly act in all its ramifications" and expressed sympathy with the government and people of Nigeria and the families of the victims of the attack.

It prayed for the repose of the souls of the dead and quick recovery for the injured.

"The commission reiterates its solidarity with the government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and reaffirms its commitment in working together to rid the nation and the West African region of the evils of terrorism," ECOWAS added.
