ECOWAS Commission Chief, Nigerien President discuss AfCTA, other matters
Niamey, Niger (PANA) - The ECOWAS Commission President, Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, met on Monday with Nigerien President, Issoufou Mahamadou, current President of the Community of West African States (ECOWAS), with discussions focusing on the last meetings on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCTA) and the African Union (AU) which took place in Niamey from July 4 to 8.
The president-in-office "gave us guidelines, the actions we must take, the sectors we must focus on," Kassi Brou told reporters after his meeting with Niger's president.
"The Head of State insisted a lot, during this meeting, for infrastructures to be an aspect on which ECOWAS must put a lot of emphasis. There are also all issues related to the single currency, the implementation of the AfCTA and security issues," said Kassi Brou.
"We have taken the guidance of the President-in-Office on all these issues and we will immediately implement them," added the President of the ECOWAS Commission.
Kassi Brou thanked and congratulated the Nigerien President, the Nigerien Government and the people of Niger for "the total success of the African Union Summit, which is a source of pride for our Community, ECOWAS".
