DRC to have a government by September 7, says Tshisekedi

Luanda, Angola (PANA) - The new government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) will be in place by September 7, President Luix Tshisekedi announced on Wednesday in Luanda.

The Congolese head of state was speaking at a press conference after the signing ceremony of the Luanda Memorandum of Understanding between Rwanda and Uganda, aimed at putting an end to the tense relations between the two neighboring countries.

Tshisekedi said he expects to receive DRC Prime Minister Sylvestre Ilunga Ilunkamba in Kinshasa on Thursday, who will give him a revised list of candidates for the formation of the first government of his mandate following the general elections of December 30, 2018.

He promised that "if all goes well", the new list of the government to be formed could be published at the end of the day of Thursday, August 22, after receipt and validation of the proposal to be presented by the Prime Minister.

Last week, President Tshisekedi rejected the first list submitted by the Prime Minister, alleging that the criteria for selecting the names of future members of government, including gender parity and generational balance, were not met.
