DR Congo's Josephine Uwase Ndeze wins Miss Geek Africa award 2019

Kigali, Rwanda (PANA)  -  Congolese female innovator Josephine Uwase Ndeze was named Miss Geek Africa 2019 at the Transform Africa Summit held Thursday in Kigali, organisers of the event told PANA here.

Ms. Geek is a competition designed to inspire African girls to be part of solving the continent’s challenges using technology and encourage them to choose a career in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

Since 2014, the competition has rewarded best young girl innovators of ICT solutions in Rwanda; since 2017, the organizers have partnered with Smart Africa Alliance to expand the competition to all its 17 member-states to crown the first ever Ms. Geek Africa.

Finalists from Rwanda, Uganda, Côte d’Ivoire and Niger were announced by Ms Geek Africa organizers after being selected among top 10 Girls in ICT in Africa today.

Kenyan Gladys Wairimu was named the first runner-up of the competition while the second runner-up went to Ndeye Fatou Fall from Senegal.

Daniella Asare from Ghana secured the fourth position, with Merlin Atonde from Benin taking the fifth position.

In addition to a set of awards comprising a laptop and an envelope, ranging between $1000-$3000 USD, all the top three winners of the competition got sponsorship to an Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) technical event of their choices, according to the organisers of the event.
