DR Congo registers four days without confirmed case of Ebola

Kinshasa, DR Congo (PANA) – The DR Congo national multisectoral committee of response to the Ebola virus has not reported any confirmed case since Tuesday in north-east Democratic Republic of Congo, the daily bulletin of the government body sent to PANA said on Sunday.  

Since the outbreak of the Ebola epidemic on 1 August 2018, the total number of cases stands at 3,461, comprising 3,316 confirmed and 145 probable cases.

Altogether, there has been 2,279 deaths (2,134 deaths of confirmed cases and 145 deaths of probable cases) and 1,169 cured patients or survivors. Presently, 180 suspected cases are being investigated.

The sources also said that 9,560 persons were vaccinated from 14 February to 10 April 2020, with a second vaccine Ad26.ZEBOV/MVA-BN-Filo (Johnson&Johnson) in the health zones of Karisimbi in Goma.

DRC vaccinated 302,221 persons with the first vaccine rVSV-ZEBOV from 8 August 2018 until 21 April 2020. Among the vaccinated are health care providers, contacts and contacts of contacts of patients.

To date, 109 entry and health check points have been established in the North-Kivu and Ituri provinces in a bid to protect the big cities of the country and avoid the spread of the epidemic to neighbouring countries.
