DR Congo: President Félix Tshisekedi supports new health order in Africa

Kinshasa, DR Congo (PANA) - The President of DR Congo, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, says he is desirous to personally support the establishment of a new health order in Africa, during his term as President of the African Union (AU).

The Congolese head of state unveiled his desire at the end of a videoconference, from April 12 to 13, and reassured that the reflections made during these meetings will not remain in the drawers.

According to him, Dr John Nkengasong of the Africa CDC will ensure that this meeting is followed up so that the recommended actions be materialized.

He reassured that, to do this, he will personally ensure that the empowerment of African centers for disease control and prevention is finalized at the end of his term.

For the President of the African Union, the initiative of the partnership for the manufacture of vaccines in Africa will focus on four points, namely the initiative to have at least five sites and / or manufacture of vaccines in Africa for health security on the continent; resource mobilization with bilateral, multilateral and private sector partners; technology transfer on the continent and strengthening of regional research sites.

The Congolese Head of State thanked all the participants who, for two days, adopted this partnership initiative, before welcoming the willingness of the WHO to support African States in this process.

This summit is aimed at getting politicians, African Union (AU) executives, business leaders, foundations and manufacturers of pharmaceutical products involved with a view to arriving at a roadmap for the effective growth of African capacity to produce vaccines.

The Summit focused on the theme: “Expanding Vaccine Production Capacities on the African Continent”.
