DR Congo: 60 cases of Ebola notified since 1 June in Equateur province

Kinshasa, DR Congo (PANA) - Sixty cases of the Ebola virus disease have been recorded since the declaration of the eleventh Ebola epidemic in the DR Congolese province of Equateur, on 1 June, 2020.

These comprise 56 cases confirmed in the laboratory and four probable cases, according to the daily report by the ministry of Health on the epidemiological situation of that disease sent to PANA here. 

A new confirmed case of the Ebola virus was recorded Sunday, 19 July, 2020, in the health zone of Lotumbe in the province of Equateur.

A new death related to the Ebola disease occurring outside the health centers was also recorded the same day in Mbandaka.

No patient recovered or got out of the Ebola treatment centers (ETCs).

Altogether, there were 24 deaths, comprising 20 deaths of confirmed cases and four deaths of probable cases, and 17 Ebola recoveries.

The sources also said that 12,959 persons were vaccinated with the rVSV-ZEBOV-GP vaccine since the beginning of the vaccination from 5 June to 18 July.

Presently, seven health zones are affected by the Ebola epidemic in the province of Equateur since the beginning of this eleventh Ebola epidemic in DR Congo on 1 June.

They are Bikoro, Bolomba, Iboko, Mbandaka, Lotumbe, Wangata and Ingende.

Since the outbreak of the epidemic, the overall number of controlled travellers (temperature taking) at the health check points is 325,610.

To date, 16 entry and health control points have been established in the province of Equateur to protect the country’s big cities and avoid the spread of the epidemic to neighboring countries.
