DR Congo: 15 deaths linked to Ebola recorded in 5 weeks in DRC province

Kinshasa, DR Congo (PANA) – Fifteen deaths caused by the Ebola virus disease (12 from confirmed cases and 3 from probable cases) have taken place since the outbreak of the 11th epidemic on 1 June, 2020, in the province of Equateur, northeast DR Congo, PANA reported on Sunday, quoting the daily bulletin of the technical secretariat for the response to the disease.

According to the bulletin, one new death from the disease occurred on Saturday among the confirmed cases, in the health zone of Wangata, in Losanganya, province of Equateur.

However, no new confirmed case of Ebola was recorded that day.

Since the declaration of the 11 epidemic on 1 June, 2020, the overall number of cases is now 36, including 33 confirmed cases, 3 probable cases and three recoveries.

Currently, five health zones are affected by the epidemic in the province of Equateur -- Bikoro (13 confirmed cases, including 4 deaths), Bolamba (6 confirmed cases), Iboko (3 confirmed cases), Mbandaka (8 confirmed cases, including 4 deaths) and Wangata (2 confirmed cases, including 2 deaths).

The bulletin also said that 8,139 persons were vaccinated with the rVSV-ZEBOV-GP vaccine since the beginning of the vaccination on 5 June, 2020.
