Cote d'Ivoire to plant one million trees on 15 November

Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire (PANA) - The Ivorian government announced on Wednesday, at the end of a meeting of the Council of Ministers, that it will plant one million trees across the country on 15 November, on the occasion of the celebration of the National Peace Day.

The reforestation operation known as "One Day, One Million Trees", will involve planting one million trees in urban and rural areas across the country to work to restore the heavily damaged national forest cover.

In this same vein, a donor roundtable is planned for January 2020, with a view to mobilising, with development partners and the private sector, the financing of the policy of the preservation, rehabilitation and extension adopted by the government in May 2018.

From 16 million hectares of forest in the 1960s, Côte d'Ivoire now has less than 2.5 million hectares.
