Côte d’Ivoire re-admitted to Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie
Brussels, Belgium (PANA) – Côte d’Ivoire has been re-admitted to the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie (APF), from which it was expelled when President Laurent Gbagbo refused to step down after his defeat by Alassane Ouattara.
The Ivorian re-admission was one of the decisions taken at the opening of APF's 28th Session on Wednesday in Brussels, Belgium.
The session was attended by Secretary General of the International Francophonie (OIF), Abdou Diouf, and the Belgian Prime Minister, Elio Di Rupo.
The president of the Ivorian National Assembly, Guillaume Soro, welcomed the decision and sent a "heartfelt thank you letter" to Diouf.
The theme of the session is "Media and Information and Communication Technology, vectors of the Francophonie in the world".
Addressing the opening session, Belgian Prime Minister Rupo, congratulated the OIF for choosing Brussels as host of the session.
He called on the French-speaking countries to support the bid of the Belgian city of Liege to organize the 2017 World Expo.
Kazakhstan’s capital city of Astana is also vying to host the2017 event.
