Côte d'Ivoire: Govt. declares 8 days of national mourning for late PM, Amadou Gon Coulibaly

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (PANA) - Cote d'Ivoire will observe an eight-day national mourning in honour of the late Prime Minister, Amadou Gon Coulibaly, who died in Abidjan on Wednesday, a decree signed by Ivorian President, Alassane Ouattara, in Ouagadougou says.

The decree, obtained by PANA, stresses that the national mourning period runs from Friday 10 to 17 July, 2020. During this period, flags will be flown at half mast throughout the national territory and at Ivorian embassies abroad.

After spending two months in Paris for treatment, Mr. Coulibaly returned to Côte d'Ivoire in early July.

He was also the candidate of the ruling party, the Rally of Houphouëtists for Democracy and Peace (RHDP), for the October presidential election.

The sudden disappearance of Mr. Coulibaly revived the power struggle in this party, even if, according to observers, a possible candidacy of President AOuattara is not excluded.
