Cote d'Ivoire: Engie Energy Group acquires Mobisol

Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire (PANA) - The energy group Engie announced on Tuesday the acquisition of Mobisol, a pioneer in off-grid solar solutions.

This acquisition will enable Engie to expand its decentralized energy supply in Africa. For example, Engie will offer solar home installations in three additional countries, in addition to the six countries in which it already has a presence through its Fenix International solar home subsidiary.

Mobisol's presence in professional products, combined with Fenix's integrated home solar energy systems, will enable Engie to offer an unmatched range of affordable energy products and reach customers in both rural and urban areas.

The acquisition of Mobisol will be concluded after approval by the relevant regulatory authorities. Founded in 2011, Mobisol employs more than 500 people, as well as around 1,200 service providers. Mobisol is present in Tanzania, Rwanda and Kenya and has deployed more than 150,000 solar home installations, providing clean and reliable energy to more than 750,000 people in sub-Saharan Africa.

Engie already has important activities in the field of off-grid electrification in Africa. With its subsidiary Fenix International, it enables more than 500,000 customers to access energy and financial services through its solar home installations, improving the quality of life of more than 2.5 million people in Uganda, Zambia, in Nigeria, Benin, Côte d'Ivoire and Mozambique.

In addition, with Engie PowerCorner, it provides affordable electricity to rural populations through smart mini-grids powered by solar energy and battery storage. PowerCorner provides 24/7 energy services to households, local businesses and utilities in villages in Tanzania and Zambia.

All these services are based on digital financial solutions such as mobile payment and use. Universal electrification is the seventh of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that the international community has committed to reach by 2030.

Currently, more than 600 million people do not have access to electricity in Africa and by 2030, 80% of the global off-grid population will be in Africa, according to the International Energy Agency.
