Côte d'Ivoire's moves to adjust national statistical system

Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire (PANA) - The Ivorian government will submit a bill to Parliament to adjust the organisation of the national statistical system, with a view to bringing it in line with international standards.

According to the Council of Ministers statement issued on Wednesday, the amendment to a law of 30 July 2013 to organise the national statistical system is intended to comply with the recommendations of the African Statistical Charter and the strategy to harmonise statistics in Africa, adopted in January 2018.

The general economics of the bill provides for the modification of the legal status of the National Statistical Institute (INS), which will become an enforcement agency, under the name of National Statistical Agency (ANStat).

In addition, there will be the establishment of a National Public Statistics Authority (ANSP) and a Statistical Development Fund, to take into account, respectively, the strategic statistical activities of monitoring activity. and the mobilization of resources needed to finance the production and dissemination of official statistics.

The new National Statistical Development Strategy (NSDS) 2017-2021, adopted in December 2018, aims to build a strong and stable national statistical system.

The overall cost of its implementation is estimated at 135.9 billion CFA francs. (US$1=FCFA600)
