Coronavirus: Zambia: operation lockdown on district results in 5 new cases

Lusaka, Zambia (PANA)  - Five new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases were recorded within the last 24 hours in Zambia, health officials said here Saturday.

This followed 124 tests done from an operation conducted Thursday during a lockdown in Kafue district, south of Lusaka.

Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya disclosed at a media briefing that the latest five cases brought the cumulative number to 57 confirmed cases.

The health minister said the five new cases included an eight-year-old boy, adding that from the new cases three patients had been discharged, bringing the number of recoveries to 33, with 17 active cases and two deaths.

Chilufya disclosed that investigations had since begun to establish all traces and contacts of all positive cases.

“Our success will depend on our collective commitment. With poor discipline, cases can flare up,” Chilufya said.

He further said 8,534 cases in total had been tested and 2,435 people released from their 14-day mandatory quarantine.
