Coronavirus: Tunisia advocates dialogue of French-speaking countries on the pandemic effects

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) - Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Othman Jerandi, has called for joint efforts by Francophone countries to mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic as a health crisis.

He made the appeal at the opening of the 37th session of the Ministerial Conference of La Francophonie held in Paris.

According to a statement from the Department of Foreign Affairs, Mr Jerandi cited Security Council Resolution 2532 (2020) which was presented by Tunisia and France for the cessation of hostilities to deal with COVID-19.

In addition, the minister reaffirmed Tunisia's commitment to the success of the next Francophonie Summit, which is "one of the most important diplomatic deadlines that Tunisia will face in 2021".

The summit is scheduled for the end of next year on the tourist island of Djerba in southern Tunisia.

The member countries of the International Organization of the Francophonie (OIF) say they are willing to provide the necessary support to Tunisia to ensure the success of this summit, which coincides with the 50th anniversary of the organization.

Tunisia is chairing the 37th session of the Ministerial Conference of the Francophonie taking place November 24 and 25 at the OIF headquarters in Paris.
