Coronavirus: TunisAir temporarily reduces salaries of employees abroad

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) - Tunisian flag carrier, TunisAir, has temporarily reduced by 50% salaries of its employees overseas.

The airline said on Tuesday that it is taking the action to intervene in the context of a heavily affected aviation sector and is part of the desire to lighten the financial burdens of the company in the midst of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.

The company said the measure comes at a time when it is facing lack of liquidity following the closure of of air space due to the coronavirus.

Tunisair has also indicated that it is currently working on implementing a new strategy to ensure its sustainability and preserve jobs given its participation in the country's economic development and its national symbolic character.

It said the strategy will soon be presented to the supervisory authority.
 
The CEO of the Company, Elyes Mnakbi, indicated on 16 April that the current crisis has resulted in a drop in revenues in an unprecedented way, making it today unable to pay wages for the month of April, and therefore requesting government support to find a solution to the situation.
