Coronavirus: Gambian President commends Chinese health team helping in pandemic fight

Banjul, Gambia (PANA) - Gambian President Adama Barrow has commended a Chinese team training Gambia’s frontline health workers in COVID-19 prevention, diagnosis and prevention.

The team is also providing guidance and treatment for patients in critical condition.

A statement made available to PANA on Friday stated that the Chinese were at State House on Thursday to update the Gambian leader on their role in consolidating Gambia’s gains in the fight against the virus and to ensure public safety during the pandemic. They also presented drugs and medical equipment for epidemic control.

President Barrow commended China for supporting his government adding that his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, had fulfilled all the pledges he made to his government.

He thanked the Chinese Ambassador, Ma Jianchun, for the support provided in the fight against the pandemic.

The Chinese Ambassador said the medical team was dispatched at the request of the Gambian Ministry of Health to combat the virus, adding that China stands with the West African country in the bid to prevail over COVID-19 and improve public health services.
