Coronavirus: Côte d'Ivoire records 80 confirmed cases

Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire (PANA) - Some 80 confirmed cases of coronavirus (Covid-19) were recorded in Côte d'Ivoire, the Ivorian ministry of Health and Public hygiene said on Wednesday.

It said that three cases were treated as zero death was recorded.

The detection of the first case on 11 March on a 45-year-old man, who visited Italy, and this triggered a response plan against the spread of the Covid-19.

Security and health measures were taken on 16 March by the National Security Council (NSC). Those measures include the closure for 30 days of all pre-school, primary, secondary and higher education institutions, the suspension of entry for 15 days by non-Ivorian travelers from countries which record more than 100 confirmed cases and the strengthening of health control at the air, maritime and land borders.

On 23 March, President Alassane Ouattara, in his address to the nation, declared a state of emergency and imposed a curfew on the land. 

The security authorities on Wednesday introduced confinement measures in Abidjan, from 26 March at midnight, and the regulation of inter-city, inter-communal and intra-communal transports.
