Coronavirus: 6,693 cases of violence against women recorded in Tunisia
Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) - Altogether, 6,693 cases of violence against women were reported via hotline calls on 1809 until 3 May 2020 during the general health confinement in Tunisia to contain the spread of the COVID-19, Tunisian minister of Women, Family, Children and the Elderly Asma Shiri said here Tuesday.
The minister was speaking in a meeting of the think tank committee on the launching of programmes for women, family, children and the elderly to reduce the effect of the COVID-19 on this target group.
Shiri indicated that these reports focused on physical violence (1,347), moral (1,462), sexual (329), economic (763), institutional (15) and verbal (1,624).
She also stressed that the number of reports received concerning children was estimated at 448 cases and the elderly 38, including five for violence against the elderly followed up since the beginning of the general health confinement.
