Coronavirus: 14 succumb to pandemic in Kenya

Nairobi, Kenya (PANA) - The death of 14 people during the past 24 hours saw the  coronavirus fatalities in Kenya rise to1,380 Sunday, an official source said here.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, in a daily pandemic brief, said there were 76 others on oxygen support while 63 were admitted at intensive care units.

During the same period, 968 more positive cases were reported.

Kagwe said the new cases were confirmed from 6,610 samples tested since Saturday, raising infections in the country to 77,372.

Since the first case of the deadly virus was  confirmed in Kenya in March,  839,614 tests have so far been conducted.

Kenya has experienced a surge in the number of infections since September.

In a bid to intensify the fight against the pandemic, Council of Governors (CoG) will begin effecting the ‘no mask no service’ policy from Monday, November 23.

It means only those seeking county government services while wearing masks and observing  other coronavirus protocols will be served.

In Kenya's devolved governance structure, there are 47 counties headed by governors.
