Congolese government sets priorities for improving health indicators

Brazzaville, Congo (PANA)   -   The Congolese ministry of Health and Population Monday outlined actions to be carried out during this year to improve health indicators.

This followed the identification of the bottlenecks that undermined the health sector during the review of annual work plans, an official source told PANA here.

This year, the Ministry of Health, Population, the Advancement of Women and the Integration of Women in Development plans to improve health indicators with regard to equitable access of populations to essential quality service packages, within the framework of health security and emergency management, including current threats.

The current threat is the coronavirus for which the government is working hard to secure the population through the strengthening of epidemiological surveillance.

The recommendations arising from the work on the review of the annual work plans emphasized that the effective implementation of free cesarean and other major obstetric interventions must be re-launched on the basis of a prior assessment; intensify formative supervision of health personnel by identifying the departments with the most problems and allocating more resources to them.

This measure will undoubtedly resolve the problem of shortage of health personnel noted in several localities in the interior of the country.

It will also be a question of validating with the departmental directors of care and health services the list of health facilities selected within the framework of universal health insurance.

The plan to strengthen public laboratories, the development of operating standards for health districts, as well as the adaptation of the legal framework to develop E-health are also on the agenda of the ministry in charge of health for this year.

"People can only value all the actions defined here if they, in practical terms, contribute to improving their well-being," said Minister of Health Jacqueline Lydia Mikolo, while addressing sector executives gathered in Gamboma, from January 28 to February 02, 2020, to find solutions to the challenges to be met.

Mikolo stated: "we must achieve at least 80 percent of the objectives set in terms of improving health indicators."

At the end of the work of this review, the representative of the World Health Organization, Dr Mamadou D. Ball, made available to the various health districts of the country, computers which will allow them to computerize the management of certain health problems and certainly facilitate the transfer of data from one point to another.
