Congolese Foreign Minister reaffirms Africans' commitment to help Libya overcome its crisis

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francophonie and Congolese Abroad, Jean Claude Gakosso, said here Wednesday that "African brothers are eager to help Libya overcome the ordeal it has undergone, and that they are convinced that reconciliation, tolerance and dialogue are Libya's path to security and stability".

Mr. Gakosso said this during a meeting with the Deputy Chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, Moussa al-Kouni, accompanied by a delegation of the African Union (AU).

Mr. Gakosso conveyed the greetings of President Denis Sassou Nguesso, Chairman of the African Union High Level Committee on Libya, to the Presidential Council.

He praised the efforts of the Presidential Council to support stability in the country, describing what has been achieved as "a qualitative leap in Libya in a short time", according to a statement issued by the Presidential Council's press office.

The Congolese minister expressed to Mr. al-Kouni the concern of President Sassou Nguesso for the stability of Libya and the holding of elections on schedule.

The deputy chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council welcomed the minister and the accompanying delegation, the statement said, expressing his joy for their presence in Tripoli, which sends a positive message to the world on stability and security in Libya.

He stressed that "Africa does not have a negative agenda on the Libyan issue, so the African brothers have the capacity to be honest mediators in the reconciliation between the Libyan people".

Mr. al-Kouni reaffirmed that "African countries, despite the conflicts and the state of breakdown they have undergone, have been able to overcome them with local, regional and international solutions, so that Africa can be an effective force in Libyan internal affairs towards reconciliation"..

He stressed that "Libya needs Africa more than ever". He also added that "the Libyan-African relationship is a relationship of peoples throughout history, not a relationship between presidents".

During the meeting, the Libyan Vice President reviewed his tour of neighbouring countries on securing the border areas to fight terrorism and criminal groups, which cause unrest in Libya and neighbouring countries.

He noted that the presence of this African delegation today in Libya demonstrates the restoration of the confidence of the international community in Libya, and the restoration of the confidence of Libyans in themselves and in Africa, for the important strategic work for the security and stability of Libya.

At the end of the meeting, the vice president of the Libyan council invited the president of the Republic of Congo to visit Libya, as an important African symbol who will play a supportive role in supporting the presidential efforts to organize the elections on their date.

The Congolese minister of Foreign Affairs arrived on Tuesday in Tripoli at the head of an African Union delegation mandated by President Denis Sassou Nguesso to take part in the International Conference at ministerial level on the Initiative for Stability in Libya.
