Congo to host roundtable on funding of transport infrastructure in March

Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire (PANA)  -  A roundtable on the funding of transports infrastructure organised by the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) will be held on 19 March in the Congolese capital, Brazzaville, a statement issued on Thursday to PANA here said.

The objective of the roundtable is to raise 2.5 billion Euros to fund three top transport infrastructure projects, divided in 12 sub-projects to be achieved between 2020 and 2029.

The projects are the building of a road-rail bridge between DR Congo and Congo Brazzaville, the building and renovation of the road Ouesso/Bangui/N’Djamena, important part of the trans-African road corridor Pointe Noire/Brazzaville/Ouesso/Bangui and Ndjamena.

It is also expected to cover works for fluvial rehabilitation, renovation of the existing harbours, building of new harbours and renovation of the docking points on the Oubangui river and its tributaries.

The roundtable will also provide an opportunity to review the consensual master plan of transports in Central Africa (PDCT-AC) and to measure its impact since its launching in 2004 by ECCAS member-countries to link the eleven capitals of that regional economic community.

"To set the bases for sustainable development and successful regional integration, Central Africa must take up several challenges among including that to build a multimodel transport network for the movement of people and goods,” said the ECCAS secretary-general, Ahmad Allam-mi.

The roundtable will be held with the help of the African Development Bank (AfDB).
