Civil society organizations push for peace in Casamance

Ziguinchor, Senegal (PANA) - The leader of an NGO in the Casamance region in Senegal is calling on the government and the separatist Movement of Democratic Forces of Casamance (MFDC) to work for peace.

"We, people of Senegal, want peace to return immediately to Casamance," Henry Ndecky, coordinator of the Dynamics of Peace in Casamance said.

He has mobilised some 176 civil society and community organizations organisations to a general assembly in the administrative capital, Sedhiou, as part of the quest for peace in Casamance.

He stressed that the objective of his organization is to bring the government of Senegal and the leaders of MFDC to the negotiating table to quickly conclude a final peace deal for Casamance.

During the meeting of Sédhiou, the civil society organizations gave themselves, among other things, the task to consolidate the achievements on peace, mobilize more actors on peace in the natural region of Casamance, namely Sédhiou, Kolda and Ziguinchor and also in neighbouring countries of Gambia and Guinea-Bissau.

Casamance has for more than three decades been ravaged by an armed conflict.
