Christians celebrate Christmas

Accra, Ghana (PANA) - Today is Christmas, the day on which the most Christians across the globe celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, who they believe was sent by God for the salvation of man.

Many churches in Ghana on the eve of Christmas on Monday held festivals of Nine Lessons and Carols to usher in the day and re-enacted the Christmas story.

Christmas will be marked by church services in Ghana on Tuesday as well as family gatherings, parties and outdoor activities at entertainment spots.

Christians believe Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit of God and born through a young virgin called Mary.

In the Vatican, Pope Francis said at a church service on Christmas eve that the birth of Christ pointed to a new way to live not by devouring and hoarding, but by sharing and giving.
