Chambers of Commerce of the G5 Sahel meet in Nouakchott

Nouakchott, Mauritania (PANA) - Nouakchott is hosting a meeting of the Executive Assembly of the Union of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of G5 Sahel countries, devoted to the launch of two projects, PANA reported on Wednesday.

The member countries of the G5 Sahel are Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Chad. This organization is dedicated to the fight against terrorism, insecurity and the coordination of development efforts.

In a speech delivered on the occasion of the opening ceremony, the president of the Chamber of Industry and Agriculture of Mauritania (CCIAM) and current president of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the Sahel, Ahmed Baba Ould Eleya, recalled the context of the global coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), which is seriously affecting the economies of the Sahel.

He spoke of the mobilization of the Consular Chambers alongside the States, with a view to carrying out a first "project to support the resilience of youth businesses in the face of the consequences of COVID-19, financed by the African Development Bank (AfDB).

There is also a Family Bank project, through the cooperation between the Union of Chambers of Commerce of the G5 Sahel, the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture and the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which goal is to give vulnerable populations access to financing for their small projects”.
