Cameroonian Aïssa Doumara wins French Republic Simone Veil Prize for gender equality

Paris, France (PANA) – French president Emmanuel Macron, on Friday at  the occasion of the celebration of the international women’s day and in a ceremony at the Elysee Palace, awarded the Simone Veil Prize of the French Republic for men-women equality to Cameroonian Aissa Doumara Ngatansou, coordinator of the Association for violence against women (AVLF) and which fights against girls' early marriage.

 

Aïssa Doumara, who was born in 1972 in Maroua, a city in northern Cameroon, and founded her association in 1996, dedicated the prize to the Boko Haram survivors and rescued people, women and girls all over the world.

 

AVLF has the goal to give back hope to despaired people, restore all powers that women victims of early or forced marriage lost through support, sensitization and capacity strengthening actions, in addition to pleading so that the socio-judicial actions of women are recognized.  

 

The winner of the Simone Veil prize of the French Republic for men-women equality will receive 100,000 Euros.

 

Established by the French government, the ‘’Simone Veil prize of the French Republic for men-women equality will every year reward a personality or organizations which contribute to making women’s cause in the world move forward.

 

The prize is within the framework of the action taken by France with regards to women’s rights and which president Macron has officially declared ‘’a great national cause of his five-year term’’, putting a price tag of 530 million Euros on it.

 

The Prize aims to promote actions likely to end violence and discrimination against women, favour their access to education and knowledge, promote their participation in leadership functions.
