COVID 19: Gambian health official says 195 people tested negative

Banjul, Gambia (PANA) – A Gambian health official Thursday disclosed that 195 tests that were conducted all proved negative, with 253 people completing quarantine and 233 contacts traced while 310 people completed follow-ups.

Modou Njie, health ministry’s director of health promotion and education, said the West African nation coronavirus situation was still on a stable path with no positive case since the confirmation of the fourth case-patient on March 29.

A 45-day state of public emergency adopted by the national assembly last week still remains active while several services have been ordered to cease operation while government has scaled down its activities.

“Currently, 39 people are on quarantine in one of the hotels in the Greater Banjul Area and a total of 201 tests were conducted,” he told journalists at a daily briefing here Thursday.

According to him, all six new laboratory tests were negative and over 80 percent of all calls through the 1025 free toll number were received from Banjul and its surrounding.

“The fourth case is still on admission and responding to treatment no new case has been admitted. All the four confirmed cases from the beginning were imported.”

Since the outbreak of the disease in December, Gambia registered four cases of the pandemic.
