CAF reaffirms media freedom, says it regrets attack on journalist

Accra, Ghana (PANA) - The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has called for the protection of journalists covering football matches and respect for media working areas.

According to the CAF media outlet on Friday, the continental football governing body gave the warning following an incident that took place on Wednesday, 23 June, 2021, during a Ghana Premier League match between Asante Kotoko and Karela United where supporters entered the media working area and got involved in a physical scuffle with a media representative, Andy Abraham Mantey.

CAF condemned the incident and called on the local authorities to take appropriate actions, reaffirming the need for the independence of the media to report on matches without fear or favour.
