CAF mourns departed Kenyan football administrator

Nairobi, Kenya (PANA)-A CAF delegation, led by former Tanzanian Football Federation President Leodegar Tenga on Wednesday mourned departed Kenyan football administrator Hussein Swaleh.

Swaleh, a former head of Kenya Football Federation (KFF), now Football Kenya Federation (FKF), perished in the Ethiopian Airlines crash on Sunday.

He was on his way back home from Egypt where he officiated the CAF Champions League match between Ismaily and TP Motema Pembe of DR Congo. Swaleh was the match commissioner.

Speaking at FKF House in Nairobi, Tenga said: “We are here, on behalf of CAF President Ahmad Ahmad, to pass our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Hussein Swaleh."

Tenga, a member  of the CAF Executive Committee, met members of Swaleh's family, flanked by among others, FKF President Nick Mwendwa.

“Swaleh spent the better part of his adult life serving football, and that cannot go unnoticed,” he added.

Mwendwa, on his part, eulogised Swaleh as a committed leader, who had immense contribution to Kenyan Football.

“I have lost, not just a branch chairman, but a personal friend, who has always supported my football development agenda,” said. Mwendwa. “As a Federation, we will stand with his family and will offer them support during this trying time.”

Swaleh’s son, meanwhile, expressed the family’s gratitude to CAF and FKF for standing with them through this time.

“I am grateful to CAF and FKF for coming through to support us at such a time when we need that support most,” he said.
