Burundi’s President leaves for Japan

Bujumbura, Burundi (PANA) - Burundi's President Pierre Nkurunziza left his country Thursday for Yokohama, Japan, where he will attend the fifth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD V), scheduled for 1-3 June, the presidency said in a statement.

TICAD was launched by the Japanese government to promote high level dialogue between African policy makers and their international partners to hasten Africa’s development.

It is also a major international framework dedicated to coordinating the implementation of programmes aimed at speeding African emergence - in collaboration with the United Nations, the World Bank, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the African Union Commission.

Japan is implementation a wide range of development programmes in Burundi, especially within the framework of the African nation's strategic programme for growth and poverty reduction (CSLP II )
