Burkinabè president meets women on International Women's Day
Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (PANA) – Burkina Faso's president Roch Marc Christian Kaboré on Sunday met with women during celebrations marking international women’s day.
The day was celebrated in the country under the theme: "Humanitarian crisis in Burkina Faso: What are the strategies for a better resilience of women?"
President Kaboré hailed the role played by women in areas that have been attacked by terrorists, saying many women have been victims, but they still stand up. "We have many victims. This is a difficult situation we are going through."
Terrorist attacks have killed hundreds and displaced some 700,000 people inside the country with 57.88% being children and 25.88% being women.
The women listed their concerns, among which are access to land, security and micro-finance.
President Kaboré, who welcomed the mobilization of women, underlined that the day is to address inequalities affecting them.
"This is a day of fight … to make it that in all rural communities women understand their role for better development," he said, and promised that "all recommendations will be examined and implemented since your role is essential".
