Burkinabè minister says women can detect early signs of radicalisation

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (PANA) - As part of the fight against terrorism, women are anxious to detect the first signs of radicalisation, said Burkinabè Minister for Women, Marie Laurence Ilboudo-Marchal, on the occasion of the 162nd International Women's Day, celebrated Friday under the theme, 'Contribution of women to the construction of Burkina Faso for security, peace and social cohesion'.

According to the minister, "the contribution of women is indispensable", because within the different communities, "we have always played an intermediary role in conflict situations by facilitating communication."

"We are real bridges between communities, we are peacemakers in our communities and we also have the anointing to be able to detect and correct within our communities the first signs of radicalisation and to understand the factors that can lead 'to influence their choices,'' said the minister in charge of women in her speech in Koupela town of Eastern region where the day was celebrated.

Inviting women to engage in this "long-drawn-out struggle", the minister stressed,  "we must persevere in the role of educator and transmission of knowledge within different communities".
