Burkinabe govt. condoles with Côte d'Ivoire after death of Prime Minister

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (PANA) – The head of the Burkinabe government, Christophe Joseph Marie Dabiré, on Wednesday offered his condolences to Côte d'Ivoire which lost its Prime Minister, Hamed Bakayoko.

"I learnt with great sadness the death of my counterpart and brother, His Excellence Hamed Bakayoko, Prime Minister of Côte d'Ivoire. In these extremely painful moments, I would like, in the name of my government, to express all my compassion and solidarity for this heavy loss," Mr Dabiré said in a communiqué.

"My thoughts go to the Bakayoko family, their political allies and all the Ivorian people strongly affected by this death. I wish his soul rest in peace", he added.

Bakayoko died on Wednesday in Germany, suffering from cancer, president Alassane Ouattara announced in a tweet.

First taken to France on 18 February, he was then transferred to Germany where he finally died.

Bakayoko, a faithful ally of president Ouattara, who regarded him as his son, was named Prime Minister after incumbent Amadou Gon Coulibaly died on 8 July, 2020 in Abidjan.

Patrick Achi was on Monday named a replacement for Bakayoko.
