Burkinabè elected to Committee for protection of rights of migrant workers

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (PANA) – Burkinabè Myriam Poussi, was on Monday elected to the UN seat in New York as member of the Committee for the protection of the rights of all migrant workers and members of their families for the 2020-2023 mandate, official sources said on Tuesday in Ouagadougou.

 

Mrs Poussi’s election came after the assembly, held on the occasion of the 9th meeting of member countries of the international convention on the protection of the rights of all migrant workers and members of their families.  

 

Out of ten candidates vting for the post, seven were elected, including Mrs Puossi, the only female.

 

A lawyer by profession, Mrs Poussi is an expert in the domain of international humanitarian law and human rights. She has an in-depth knowledge of the UN human rights procedures and mechanisms, as well as good knowledge of the functioning of regional human rights bodies in Africa.

 

The Committee for the protection of the rights of all migrant workers and members of their families is a body composed of 10 independent experts in charge of monitoring the implementation of the international convention on the protection of the rights of all migrant workers and members of their families by signatory governments. It held its first session in March 2004 and is currently meeting in the Swiss capital, Geneva.
