Burkinabe President calls for support for sub-regional integration

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (PANA) - Burkinabe President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, on Saturday in Ouagadougou called for support for sub-regional integration following a meeting of ECOWAS trade ministers on the closure of borders between Nigeria and Benin.

"It is important to support the sub-regional integration that we are committed to achieving, for the happiness of our peoples," Mr Kaboré said at the end of a hearing he granted to ECOWAS trade ministers.

"We have examined the recommendations made by experts who worked on the basis of the conclusions of the various meetings and the tripartite committee, the findings of the Task Force and on the basis of all the recommendations made to them. And we have just taken stock of the situation," said the head of the delegation, Paul Robert Tiendrebéogo, the Minister of African Integration and Burkinabes Abroad, according to a statement issued by the Presidency of Burkina Faso.

According to Tiendrebéogo, the Head of State gave them guidelines and undertook to examine these recommendations, in line with the mandate given to him by his ECOWAS peers, which is to initiate discussions to find solutions for the reopening of Nigeria's borders closed since August 2019.
