Burkinabe François Compaoré still under judicial control in France
Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (PANA) - François Compaoré, younger brother of ex-president Blaise Compaoré, is still being detained in France, preparatory to his extradition to Burkina Faso, judicial sources said on Monday in Ouagadougou.
The Paris Court of Appeal on Wednesday approved his extradition as investigations into the assassination, in 1998, of investigation journalist Norbert Zongo, continue.
Immediately, Mr Compaoré’s defence appealed against that decision.
‘’Contrary to what François Compoaré’s defence said publicly, the judicial control was ordered by a French judge," said a communiqué issued by the Burkinabe minister of Justice, Réné Bagoro.
‘’Any attempt to leave the French territory or refusal to appear before courts would be considered as a serious violation of the legal regulations of that judicial control," he added, saying that the decision is ''an important and decisive step’’ in the extradition procedure for Mr Compaoré.
