Burkinabe Army says 22 "terrorists" neutralised in South West

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (PANA) - At least 22 "terrorists" were neutralised on Monday in an anti-terrorist operation carried out by Burkina Faso's defense and security forces in the Bougouriba Province, in the south-west, the national army announced in a statement on Tuesday.

According to the same source, following consolidated intelligence, an offensive was conducted by units of the Rapid Action Monitoring and Response Group (GARSI) of Iolonioro (Bougouriba Province in the south-west and units of the Departmental Group of Gaoua on 27 June 2022 to arrest individuals who were carrying explosives.

At the end of the operation, the units conducted a sweep during which three terrorist bases were discovered.

"The units engaged in combat each time, neutralizing at least 22 terrorists," the statement said.

A large quantity of materials including weapons, ammunition, drugs and pharmaceuticals were also recovered or destroyed, the army said, adding that no casualties were recorded among its ranks.

The Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces congratulated the Gendarmerie units engaged in this victorious action, the statement said.

He also urged all units to maintain pressure on the terrorist groups until their surrender, the statement concluded.
