Burkina Faso to build military camp in Djibo, Sahel region

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (PANA) - Burkinabe President, Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, has signed a decree creating a corps of troops, called the 14th Inter-Arms Regiment (14th RIA) based in Djibo, Soum province, in the Sahel region, to deal with terrorism, PANA learned from official sources Thursday.

The decree, signed on Tuesday, indicates that the 14th RIA will be in charge of the operational preparation of personnel and equipment able to participate in the execution of the missions assigned to the army.

This regiment will be commanded by a senior officer who will take the title of Chief of Corps and will be assisted by a deputy, both to be appointed by the Head of State.

The Burkinabe Sahel has fallen into a cycle of terrorist attacks that have claimed many victims and displaced thousands of people.

In addition to frontal attacks, the army is also confronted with explosive devices used by terrorists.
